USC Barbados Pomp and Circumstance

The Bajan USCian community is being invited to come out and show support for the first ever locally held  completion ceremony for graduands of the Barbados satellite site of the University of the Southern Caribbean.  This is a significant milestone in the life of the USC Barbados Campus which was first launched back in 1994, went dormant in 1998, and was re-launched in 2007.  Join local government officials, Dr. Kern Tobias, Chairman of the Board of USC and President of the Caribbean Union of Seventh-day Adventists, Dr. Clinton Valley, President of the University of the Southern Caribbean,  Ps. David Beckles, President of the East Caribbean Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Dr. Norma Niles, Coordinator of the Barbados (Satellite) USC extension campus,  representatives from the University of The West Indies - Cave Hill Campus, and several other distinguished guests in what promises to be  a strategic event not only for Barbados, but also for USC and SDAs throughout the region.

Happy Holiday Travels USC Alums & Friends!

Grantley Adams Int'l Airport, Barbados
On behalf of USC alumni and friends in Barbados, here's wishing those who are travelling for the holidays safe trips and season's greetings.  Welcome home, Delisle Mayers!  Wishing Norma Greaves, our Barbados PRO and Abingdon librarian, an exciting African Safari!  During her safari Norma will also be visiting at least two of our sister SDA institutions of higher learning in Africa - Helderberg College in South Africa and Babcock University in Nigeria.  The latter institution earlier this year opened the fourth of only five medical schools operated by SDAs around the world.  A sixth medical school is currently in the works for the Philippines.

Please feel free to add your comments and well wishes below as well as any additions to this list of travellers.

It Pays To Serve Jesus

This performance by the Aeolians at Oakwood University Church was part of the Sabbath Service for the 2011 Spring Council of the General Conference of SDAs. The full service can be viewed here. The Aeolians, Oakwood's premier choral ensemble, has performed throughout the United States as well as outside of the country. Oakwood University was founded in 1896 and is one of about one hundred remaining historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) in America. It is operated by the North American Division of the General Conference of SDAs.

Two career lessons for every unemployed tertiary graduate

The first of these lessons is this: The important thing is not where you start but that you start...The second lesson is very much related to the first and is this: It's not what you do but how you do what you do. How you do what you do relates to your work attitude.

Dr. Calvin B. Rock To Present The Rock

Dr. Calvin B. Rock, a former President of Oakwood University and a former Vice President of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, will be preaching at the Mile And A Quarter SDA Church next Sabbath, December 8, 2012. Whether or not you are a conference or local church worker all USCians should come out and enjoy this rare spiritual treat at the feet of one of the truly great Adventist preachers of our time.  Dr. Rock also has roots in Barbados (in St. Lucy to be exact) which of course officially makes him 'a piece of De Rock.'

Services from the Mile And A Quarter Church are streamed on the church's website and can be found on ustream.tv.
