Dr. Timothy Greaves Honored Posthumously

The Alumni Association of the Loma Linda University School of Medicine (LLUSM) honored the late Dr. Timothy Greaves at its 81st Annual Postgraduate Homecoming Convention Gala held on Monday night, March 4, 2013 at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California, USA.  Dr. Greaves, the lone honoree in the coveted 'Distinguished Honored Alumnus Award' category,  and a member of the honored 50th Anniversary/1963 Class of Medicine, was paid special tribute for his courage,  determination, experiences and  achievements he was able to gain in spite of numerous physical challenges and hurdles faced during his life.  Honorees are selected for their contributions to medical research and education, medical mission and community service, participation in medical activities, and support and commitment to the goals and objectives of LLUSM.
Dr. Timothy Greaves, fondly known as the 'Wheel-Chair Doctor',  was nominated by his alumni and LLU faculty who felt that his professional and spiritual contributions were worthy of recognition.  His accomplishments in the fields of Cytopathology,  Professor in Pathology, his appointment as Physician specialist in the Pathology Department, and eventually becoming the Director of Exfoliative Cytology at the Los Angeles County Hospital and University of Southern California Medical Center  were some of the areas of his successful medical career.   He was a skilled diagnostician, and was largely responsible for the  excellent clinical reputation of the L.A. County Hospital's Cytopathology Division.  He passed away on May 8, 2010.

Representation to the Award Presentation by Tim's immediate family was requested, and his siblings, Norma and Dr. Donn Greaves, attended the gala event in California on March 4.  Thelda VanLange-Greaves, wife of Dr. Timothy Greaves, gave a response and accepted the posthumous Award in his honor.   A  new book on Tim's life "..Of Courage, Compassion, and Endurance: The Story of Timothy S. Greaves, MD" is a 2013 publication written by Dr. Dorothy Minchin-Comm at the request and expense of the Alumni of LLUSM.  It is available for online purchase at  www.trafford.com or email  'orders@trafford.com'.
